Call of Duty Endowment donates $25,000 to SSV

Activision's non-profit benefit organization pledged to donate $25,000 to Still Serving Veterans (SSV) toward a Veterans Employment Transition Initiative that provides job hunting support and counseling.

Activision sent out a press release announcing the gift today, while Endowment advisory board member Col. Roger Dimsdale spoke at the annual conference of the Association of the United States Army. Both cited the need for solider transition and reintegration back to civilian life.

The press release cited a Labor Department statistic that puts the unemployment rate among young Iraq and Afghanistan veterans at 21.1 percent in 2010 -- "almost double the national average." With the donation, SSV can continue to fund job training and one-on-one counseling for these veterans.

Activision created the Call of Duty Endowment in 2009 to benefit veterans transitioning to civilian life. For Memorial Day 2010, the Endowment raised $50,000 for Hire Heroes USA.
