ZeniMax announced the acquisition of European studio MachineGames, made up of former Starbreeze Studios founders. Who's next on their "to acquire" list?
It feels like a lifetime between now and 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay. Since that time, founding members of Starbreeze went off to form MachineGames while Starbreeze worked with EA on two projects -- on of which turned out to be a canned Jason Bourne game.
MachineGames already has a project underway at ZeniMax subsidiary Bethesda Softworks. The only detail we know for sure about the game is that it's built on id Software's Tech 5 engine.
Rumors of a ZeniMax buy first surfaced last week when Kotaku spotted some Swedish business records noting a change of registration for the developer. Fits right in with the pattern of ZeniMax's buying spree, but the company still won't disclose just how much it's spending on all these studios.
