Top Story: The top 50 video game characters of all time, according to Guinness

Lists drive the internet not because they're especially informative or accurate. But because we all love to scroll through them, looking for our favorites, and then troll the comments when we don't find what we want.

The Guinness Book of World Records, Gamers' Edition shot out a press release this morning with a list of the "top 50 characters of all time." The list was compiled using the opinions and votes of 13,000 gamers. Nintendo "topped" the list with 11 characters and the top two slots:

  • 9. Kratos (God of War, Sony, 2005)
  • 10. Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega, 1990)

What makes it news is all of the characters that didn't make the list. This and this alone makes you click, makes you comment, and makes you wonder how big Guinness' voting pool will be next year.
