THQ Wireless and developer ngmoco announce the release of Star Wars Imperial Academy for Apple iOS systems.
The game puts players into the boots of an Imperial Academy recruit whose ultimate goal is to become one of the Empire's Stormtroopers. To do this, players need to prove they are elite Stormtrooper material by competing against other Imperial Academy recruits in four-player death-match battles that take place across the Star Wars galaxy.
Players partake in a variety of training exercises such as close-quarters blaster combat, long-range sniping, and explosive armament challenges in classic Star Wars settings like Hoth, Cloud City, Tatooine, and more. The action is delivered in a first-person perspective, with controls designed specifically for iOS devices.
THQ Wireless said in its announcement this morning that the game would be "coming soon." but the game is available now at appstore.ngmoco.com/starwars and on iTunes. The game was built using ngmoco's Eliminate engine and comes in multiple languages including English, French, German, and Spanish.
Update: THQ confirmed that the game is actually available as a free download now from the aforementioned link and iTunes, and not "coming soon" as this morning's announcement suggested. The story has been updated to reflect a released product.
