Child's Play breaks $2 million in donations

Penny Arcade-founded charity Child's Play hit a new annual donation record in 2010 with $2,294,317 in donations.

Child's Play breaks $2 million in donations

This total comes from the foundations own fund-raising efforts as well as those of other charity drives like the Humble Indie Bundle ($300,000), LoadingReadyRun's Desert Bus for Hope ($207,000), that Gears of War "Fate of Carmine" avatar t-shirt campaign ($150,000), and smaller local charity events like San Francisco's Ümloud! ($11,146).

Last year, Child's Play brought in $1.7 million in donations compared to the $1.4 million from the 2008 drive. We can credit the steady increase in annual donations to stuff like wider awareness, recovering economy, text support and other new donation technology, etc. -- but we prefer to think it has to do with how awesomely generous gamers are as a culture.

Lifetime donations to Child's Play hit a lifetime total of $8.9 million with this latest holiday season. All funds go toward providing toys, games, movies and books for children's hospitals all over the world. You can help the foundation get a head start on 2011 here.
